The Lincoln-to-Boston Stand-Up Paddleboard Challenge

The 50km stand up paddle board challenge see’s us starting at the Brayford pool in Lincoln and we will paddle along the river Witham all the way to Boston in Lincolnshire. Along the way there are various stops we use to eat and drink etc . Our main stops are Bardney Lock , Southrey, Kirkstead Bridge , Chapel Hill , Langrick , Antons Gowt and then the finish Boston rowing club.

We have a support team that waits for us at every stop , we couldn’t do it without them . I (Carolyn) and Phil May from Yellowbelly Sup School do this challenge together . I first met Phil in 2018 I think it was . I had never done water sports and I was up for a new challenge after having to give up hiking hills to care for my dad. I was addicted and I’ve never looked back .

The challenge of doing Lincoln to Boston came up in conversation after about 3 months of me learning to stand up paddle board and that was it we had to do it .

With the challenge being such a big thing we decided to take the opportunity to use it to raise money for charity . With me having vascular Eds we have had Annabelle’s challenge for veds as one of the charities each year. We have also raised money for The RNLI , CALM and the lincs and notts air ambulance .

We have raised thousands over the 3 previous challenges. Our aim is also to raise awareness on them all too .

I (Carolyn) personally do the challenges so I can help other people and hopefully make their lives a slightly better place . I also do it to live my life to the max (corny I know) but being diagnosed with vascular Eds I want to do these sort of things while my body still allows me to do it . There will be a day I won’t be able to do it anymore and that day approaches faster each year . Having veds means our insides are aging at a faster rate too and every year things become a lot harder .
